ABOUT LADIES GOT THE BLUES
Ladies Got the Blues is an all female blues-collective consisting of a numerous of Sweden’s young, leading-edge, female musicians within the Blues/Roots genre. Their aim is to highlight and pay tribute to all women in Blues, from all ages och different styles. It is a big and honourable mission, but these skilled musicians are have all the right qualities to do so. Ladies Got the Blues is a living proof that the genre is still living and breathing – and most of all – developing and taking new forms.
Ladies Got the Blues can take on new forms and set-ups depending on the musicians. But it is also one of the cornerstones of their concept – to not only call attention to role-models within the Blues from history, but also promoting up-to-date, hard working female musicians.
Ladies Got the Blues is currently touring around Sweden and Europe with their award winning concert. They are also working on their annual spectacular live-show that will take place in Stockholm next year.
Ladies Got the Blues first concert took place at Fasching Jazz Club in Stockholm 2014. After that, the band has been playing at numerous Blues and Jazz festivals in Sweden and in Europe, in addition to hosting the big annual show at Fasching.
There has been many talented guest artist that has played together with the band. At 2016’s annual show at Fasching they got the great honour to play together with one of their role models – Sweden’s number one Blues queen Louise Hoffsten.
Ladies got the Blues is constantly updating their repertoar. They have paid tribute to: Big Mama Thornton, Ma Rainey, Koko Taylor, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Patti Drew, Laura Lee, Ruthie Foster, Nina Simone, Carolyn Wonderland, Irma Thomas, Lucille Bogan, Candi Staton, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Susan Tedeschi, Nancy Sinatra, Bettye Lavette, Tina Turner, Lizz Wright and many more.
